Do Hearing Supplements Work? Evidence, Limits & Buyer Questions

Understand what supplement evidence can and cannot tell you about hearing health, tinnitus and hearing loss.

Editorially reviewed • Updated September 29, 2026 • Sources and commercial terms can change.

“Hearing supplement” is a marketing category, not a single treatment. Evidence for an individual nutrient or botanical cannot automatically be transferred to every multi-ingredient product that contains it.

Four evidence questions

  1. Was the finished product itself studied?
  2. Was the study done in humans similar to the target customer?
  3. Were doses and formulations comparable?
  4. Did the study measure a meaningful hearing outcome?

FDA guidance says supplement structure/function claims must be substantiated and truthful, and disease-treatment claims fall into a different regulatory category. FTC guidance likewise requires solid proof for health advertising claims.
